How long have you been working in education?

I have been working in education since 2007.

In what areas?

Sciences - physical science, environmental science, biology, chemistry

How long at JHCS?

This is my second year.

What do you do outside working at JHCS?

Outside of working at JHCS I am an avid hiker and backpacker.  I love long (25+ milers) and spent every weekend exploring the Grand Tetons.  I also enjoy skiing, road biking, traveling, horseback riding, volunteering in the community, as well as reading.  I could go on and on.

What is your most rewarding part of the day at JHCS?

The most rewarding part of my day at JHCS stems from deep and critical conversations and discussions with students where I learn about their passions, what sparks their curiosities, and how they are forming their own connections between content and their world.   I am in education because of them...!

What drew you to the field of education?

My first and former career was GIS (Geographical Information Systems) mapping for oil & gas, The Nature Conservancy, and an environmental engineering firm.  I got bored and restless because I wasn't learning much, nor was I growing. I yearned to be in a position where I could be involved in my passion for conservation and ecology.  Unfortunately, the area I was living in at the time, Oklahoma, was a farming community where little attention was given to protecting native systems, so I decided to go into teaching in hopes of instilling a conservation mindset in my students.
