#TeacherTuesday

Dave Baczko

How long have you been working in education?

This is my 18th year teaching

In what areas?

All levels and grades of high school English and freshman college composition

How long at JHCS?

This is my 6th here at JHCS

What do you do outside working at JHCS?

I enjoy everything that this valley offers, particularly fishing during the summer and skiing during the winter.  I also always enjoy a great meal (either home cooked or out at a restaurant) with friends.

What is your most rewarding part of the day at JHCS?

I truly appreciate the sense of community that is felt here at JHCS.  The smiling faces of the students and faculty and the welcoming nature of everyone when someone walks in the front door is amazing.  The daily connections and conversations with my students and colleagues make every day new and exciting.

What drew you to the field of education?

As many of my students know, I challenge them to make personal connections with the literature we study, and I appreciate those moments when there is that ‘“A-Ha” moment.  I had the privilege of having some great teachers in high school and college who challenged and encouraged me. I wasn’t initially sure what I wanted to pursue after college, but after my first experience teaching at C-V here in Jackson, I felt that teaching is a great way to have daily variety while also giving back and serving a community.
