Rachel Garrett

How long have you been working in education?

This is my fourth year in the classroom.

In what areas?

HS Math and even did a small stint as a 4th Grade math teacher

How long at JHCS?

This is my 2nd year.

What do you do outside working at JHCS?

I love trail running, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, sailing, paddling, and swimming. Basically, I love anything and everything outside! I also have a strong passion for college football and basketball, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Tar Heels.

What is your most rewarding part of the day at JHCS?

The best part of my day is watching students enjoy being at school. Of course there are days when students don't want to be there, but I think JHCS fosters an environment that sparks joy within education. When the students come to class each day excited to learn, it makes my job easy.

What drew you to the field of education?

My mom is a high school math teacher and taught me when I was a senior in high school. I had a lot of fantastic teachers in high school, but my mom was the best. She convinced me (without saying a word) that teaching is in my blood! Also, I attest my passion for teaching to my time spent at Camp Merrie-Woode both as a camper and a counselor.
