Alumni Spotlight: Suzy Garcia, Class of 2017

Since graduating from JHCS in the spring of 2017, I began my college studies at the University of Wyoming. The time spent at JHCS has not only helped prepare me academically, but it has also helped me personally. Every year I was challenged and forced to go out of my comfort zone to do things that pushed me in my academic career and my personal life. I was encouraged by all my teachers to join conversations and break my habit of staying silent. I was reminded of my hunger for success and ambitions to do bigger things in my life and strive to achieve a successful career.

It is because of JHCS that I was able to pursue and receive the Daniels Fund Scholarship as well as the Profe Scholarship. Both the Daniels and Profe Scholarship have allowed me to feel confident in my education and future, which I am very sure I would not be able to do without. These scholarships have given me the ability to be part of the first generation in my family to attend college, and I couldn't be more thankful.

Without JHCS I am unsure as to where I would be and what I would be doing.  It is because of JHCS that I am allowed to feel assertive in myself, in my academics and beyond. Although I still have many barriers to overcome I know I can fearlessly face them, because of the abilities I have gained and polished throughout my high school career.

I would like to thank every single one of my teachers and mentors for being part of my education; you are in my thoughts everywhere I go. Thank you especially to Dave, Roxana, Karen, Amy, and everyone else who believed in me. I am truly grateful.
